My friend and her husband recently had the baby that they have been waiting for over the last few years. God’s timing is always right, but it is so beautiful to see a prayer come to fruition.

I’m elated for her. I actually did a little dance and told everyone that I knew – even if they didn’t care. Rejoice! Prayers do get answered.

Then your light will break forth like the dawn,

and your healing will quickly appear

then your righteousness will go before you

and the glory of the LORD will be your rear guard.

Then you will call and the LORD will answer;

you will cry for help, and he will say: Here am I.

and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry

and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,

then your light will rise in the darkness

and your night will become like the noonday.

The LORD will guide you always;

he will satisfy your needs in sun-scorched land

(Isaiah 58:8-11, NIV)

I have been thinking on this verse. I believe that God is always interceding for us, His creation. He is willing. I know that there is probably a better way for me to say it, but I think about the way that when we pray and genuinely listen for His will, it will be easier when we do need to wait.

Part of the process of waiting is to continue serving God by serving others. It helps us to become less self-centered and selfish. Here, in Isaiah 58, there are multiple references to helping the needy. Be the hands and feet of God.  We don’t need to be the answer to our own prayer but to try to be the answer to the prayers of others – those who need food, clothing, and even comfort in a difficult time.

I don’t know that all of our desires are promised to us, but God does promise to meet all of our needs. Believe and hope. Hope does not disappoint.

God is the one who hears and answers prayer!
